chocolate peanut butter chocolate chip cookies @createdbydiane

I will say these have become my favorite cookies lately,

they are chewy and delicious and full of chocolate and peanut butter flavor.

I love how big they are.

When it comes to chocolate and peanut butter it’s GO big or go home,

and these are going BIG in flavor and size.

Perfect to satisfy your sweet tooth.

I’ve made these beauties to celebrate the 2nd year of this momentous day.

Make sure you place the cookies about 2 inches apart,

overcrowding the baking sheet will result in uneven baking.

I have lots of tips on baking cookies HERE, you won’t want to miss it!

cookies hot out of the oven

These bake up nice and stay thick in the center and are chewy and delicious, yep….I’m kinda crazy about them!

Pour a glass of milk and pile some on a plate and enjoy,

sharing is fine… I share sometimes!

These cookies are hard to resist warm out of the oven.

the chocolate chips are melty and gooey…

and the aroma of peanut butter is intoxicating,

the slightly crisp edges on the cookie part are a really yummy contrast and that is why these need to go on the top of your must make cookie list, RIGHT NOW!

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup dutch cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. In mixer bowl beat butter and peanut butter together
  2. add in both sugars and vanilla
  3. mix in eggs until completely combined
  4. Add in flour, dutch cocoa, baking soda and salt, mix until combined
  5. Add in chocolate chips
  6. place 3 tablespoons sized scoop (Large scoop) on a parchment lined baking sheets about 2 inches apart, don't overcrowd your baking sheets.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes
  8. Remove baking sheet from oven, the cookies can cool on the baking sheets (If you move large cookies when they are still hot, they tend to break) that is why these are baked 10-12 minutes they still cook until the pan cools. I use thick baking pans they take time to cool down (If you use thin baking sheets you may need to adjust the time) you want to cookies to have a slightly firm bottom and the top should be all set up. If your cookies need another minute or two check them often, but don't overbake them, remember they will still bake more on the hot pan after you remove them from the oven.
  9. Cookies are big and will be chewy in the center.

In my opinion, a cookie has to be THICK and CHEWY in order for me to even consider eating it, and you definitely nailed that on the head.
And then adding in chocolate and peanut butter? I DIE. pinned!

I haven’t tried using oil for the butter, if you have done that in other recipes it may be worth a try. I’m not sure of the results because I typically bake with butter.

I haven’t tried subbing oil for butter as I prefer butter, but if you have done that before with baking cookies I say go ahead and try it. You’ll have to let me know how they turn out with the oil.

Will Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa work in this recipe or does it have to be only Dutch processed? (Hershey’s Special Dark is a blend of natural and Dutch).

Yes you can use any cocoa powder you prefer the taste of, the special dark should taste yummy.

about 24 cookies as I recall, maybe 30. I think each time I make the dough, everyone walks by and swipes some before I get a solid count 🙂

I made large cookies and recall there being 22 cookies (that is my best guess, I made them with 3 tablespoons of dough per cookie)

I tried making a half batch (just used half the ingredients) and my dough came out kinda was kind of crumbly before I put it in the oven. Like a bunch of little dough pellets/balls rather than thick congealed dough. Even so, I tried to roll it into balls using a tablespoon (I didn’t realize you were supposed to use three a cookie). The cookies came out crumbly and chewy in the center, but really hard everywhere else. Did I do something wrong and that’s why it came out crumbly? and will the three tablespoons fix the hardness?

Tried making a half batch of these last night, but the dough pre-baking came out all crumbly and not really…congealed like in the photos. I put them in the oven using a tablespoon (didn’t realize I was supposed to use three a cookie) and they came out crumbly, chewy in the center, but hard everywhere else. What did I do that made it so crumbly, and will three tablespoons fix the hardness?

Hi Scott, this is a dryer dough to work with, so it’s not best for smaller cookies. I simply scooped 3 tablespoons with a large scoop to bake them. The outer edges of the cookies were slightly crisp with the interior being chewy. As long as the dough comes together to scoop they should be ok (but this is for large cookies) Be sure to start with room temperature butter, not cold butter. You could reduce some of the flour, back off about 1/2 cup flour and then add it as needed a tablespoon at a time just until the cookie dough comes together. I have a few posts on baking cookie with tips. Here is that info. Hope that is helpful, let me know if you have any more questions.
