Taco seasoning can be used for way more than making tacos.

But lets first start with tacos. Use this as you would a store-bought package of taco seasoning, if you need to thicken them and want to add water to create the “sauce” like store-bought packages do, add some cornstarch to the taco meat along with some water.

Add a couple of tablespoons to sour cream and cream cheese you’ll have a really tasty dip perfect with tortilla chips, taquitos, tamales and if you need a cute dip platter here is what you can make it look like. My kids love this, and they like a few drops of hot sauce added to it as well.

taco seasoning homemade mix

You can make this taco seasoning mix in a large quantity, just multiply the ingredients to make the portion you want. The quantity that is given is for about 6 tablespoons, the jar you are seeing is not a big jar, it’s a salt shaker that looks like a mason jar.

You can sprinkle this with oil and vinegar salad dressing and add some tortilla chips for a fun taco flavored salad.

I went through my recipe box to grab a photo of the taco dip I’ve been making for YEARS, this photo is from 1994. Everyone loves this taco dip. Really you won’t believe how this dip gets devoured.

I picked up a round plastic tray that had an edge that is an inch high, great for keeping all the tip on the platter including the toppings.

I use 8oz cream cheese, 16 oz sour cream 3 tablespoon taco seasoning whipped up smooth then spread on a platter.

For the toppings, I use cherry tomatoes cut in half, shredded lettuce and diced scallions, sliced black olives, pickled jalapenos, and cheddar cheese. You can vary the items to what you have on hand, it’s a great last-minute dip.

Add a bag of tortilla chips and you’ll be the hit of the party!

My favorite taco

I wanted to share with you my favorite taco… it might not look like much, but it’s packed with simple flavors. I add my taco seasoning to sauteed ground beef, and I also add some to some refried beans as well.

Then I heat or put my tortillas in the toaster and crisp them up a bit, I pile on some refried beans, then add the seasoned ground beef, next I add some Cotija cheese and top it with some cilantro. MMM….give it a try the next time you’re in the mood for tacos!

How do I thicken a recipe with this seasoning and make it slightly “saucy”?

Add a tablespoon of cornstarch along with 1/4 cup water and it’ll thicken it as it’s heating. You can add it when you add the seasoning.

This Taco Baked Ziti is a great recipe to use this seasoning in.

Can I use this taco seasoning for fajitas, enchiladas, and chili?

Yes, you can use this seasoning mix for any protein, like beef or chicken, along with pork. You can use it to season fajitas, enchiladas and use it to make chili, just add some additional chili powder.

How can I make red taco sauce with this?

Use 1 can of plain tomato sauce, with 1 cup water, 2 tablespoons water and 1 tablespoon taco seasoning, heat the mixture on the stove in aa pan and if you want it thick, add a tablespoon of cornstarch whisk it in when you add the water. Cook until it becomes to a simmer.

simple nachos createdbydiane.com

Don’t forget how easy nachos are to make… make some taco meat (ground beef or chicken with the taco seasoning) then add that to a tray of tortilla chips, along with some of your favorites like black beans, and cheese. Then stick the tray under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese melts. Then add on some tomato, green onions, and cilantro.
