<p>although these are great all year long&#8230;and we wouldn&#8217;t want them to miss all the fun of fresh-baked cookies,&nbsp; now would we?!?</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Charlie just LOVES when I bake him homemade treats, these are super easy to make, everything goes in the food processor and then I just roll them out, cut the shapes and bake them.</p>
<p>You can wrap them up and tuck them into your pets stocking for Christmas or just start handing them out to them right away, they will surely be sniffing around the counters&nbsp; waiting for them to cool, trust me!</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re on INSTAGRAM, you&#8217;ll have to follow Charlie along on his adventures <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sweetcharliedog/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow external" data-wpel-link="external">HERE</a>&nbsp;I&#8217;m on there too if you are not already following me&#8230; go right ahead <a href="https://www.instagram.com/createdbydiane/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow external" data-wpel-link="external">HERE</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-left">This is Jack and Charlie&#8230;</h2>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph"> I hope we get to celebrate many more birthdays with our pets, and now they have a fun little cake made especially for them.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">Sometimes I think I even catch them dancing&#8230;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="664" height="443" src="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/cat-and-dog-dancing-@createdbydiane.jpg" alt="No bake cake for you to easily make, here is my cat jack and my dog charlie" class="wp-image-6297" title="cat and dog, dancing @createdbydiane" srcset="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/cat-and-dog-dancing-@createdbydiane.jpg 664w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/cat-and-dog-dancing-@createdbydiane-530x353.jpg 530w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/cat-and-dog-dancing-@createdbydiane-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/cat-and-dog-dancing-@createdbydiane-450x300.jpg 450w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/cat-and-dog-dancing-@createdbydiane-150x100.jpg 150w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Celebrating With Jack and Charlie</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Well, maybe they aren&#8217;t dancing&#8230; either way, we sure have fun with them both.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">They are both indoor pets, but they like to play on the back porch sometimes.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="664" height="443" src="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Dog-Neckerchief.jpg" alt="Dog Neckerchief, on my dog charlie for his birthday that I sewed and his collar slides through " class="wp-image-6891" srcset="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Dog-Neckerchief.jpg 664w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Dog-Neckerchief-530x353.jpg 530w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Dog-Neckerchief-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Dog-Neckerchief-450x300.jpg 450w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Dog-Neckerchief-150x100.jpg 150w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">This recipe was originally made to celebrate Charlie becoming a member of our family and his second birthday. We were so lucky to have him!</p>

<p class="has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph">I sewed him a neckerchief with cupcakes on it just for his birthday.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You might also like my <a href="https://www.createdby-diane.com/pumpkin-peanut-butter-oatmeal-dog-biscuits/" data-wpel-link="internal"><strong>Pumpkin Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Biscuits</strong></a>, along with my favorite must-have items for your dog.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="680" height="850" src="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/pet-cake-cat-cake-dog-birthday-cake-createdbdydiane-680x850.png" alt="pet safe cake recipe for cat birthday, dog birthday ro dog gotcha day celebrating make with pet food createdbydiane" class="wp-image-50241" srcset="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/pet-cake-cat-cake-dog-birthday-cake-createdbdydiane-680x850.png 680w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/pet-cake-cat-cake-dog-birthday-cake-createdbdydiane-240x300.png 240w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/pet-cake-cat-cake-dog-birthday-cake-createdbdydiane-768x960.png 768w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/pet-cake-cat-cake-dog-birthday-cake-createdbdydiane.png 1122w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pet-Safe Ingredients</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always check the ingredients in the foods you give your pet. Some peanut butters may contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. Choose a peanut butter that does not contain xylitol, and check the ingredient label before using it. If you&#8217;re unsure whether an ingredient is safe for your dog or cat, check with your veterinarian.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As far as the icing goes, the icing and sprinkles are made with sugar, so no unusual ingredients there.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This quick, easy recipe is perfect for a cat cake recipe or dog cake recipe. It&#8217;s the best birthday celebration cake or gatcha day recipe you can make. Have fun with it, I&#8217;m sure your pet will love their pet cake and all the attention on their special day.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m pretty sure the day we brought home, Charlie, we thought we were rescuing him&#8230;..</p>
<p>turns out we now think he rescued us.</p>
<p>He&#8217;s so sweet, we are very lucky!</p>
<p>Charlie helps us be more active, we are always getting up to let him out, to go for a walk or play fetch.</p>
<p>He rescued us from ever feeling like there is no one home, he runs to the door as soon as we open it.</p>
<p>He&#8217;s my constant companion!</p>
<p>He follows me around all day and is ALWAYS in a good mood!</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-24488" src="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/charlie-cocker-spaniel-with-dog-bone-treat-createdbydiane.com_-680x907.jpg" alt="charlie (cocker spaniel) with dog bone treat createdbydiane.com" width="680" height="907" srcset="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/charlie-cocker-spaniel-with-dog-bone-treat-createdbydiane.com_-680x907.jpg 680w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/charlie-cocker-spaniel-with-dog-bone-treat-createdbydiane.com_-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/charlie-cocker-spaniel-with-dog-bone-treat-createdbydiane.com_.jpg 720w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>He helps us realize how much love we have to give and of course, he is there every step of the way reminding us how much he loves us.</p>
<p>Even if it sometimes means cleaning up a chewed up mess&#8230;..</p>
<p>he is probably trying to remind us to make sure everything is put in its place! (with a lid on it if need be)</p>
<p>I have baked dog biscuits before we even had a dog. We have always loved when dogs would come by for a visit!</p>
<p>Now that we have a dog there are so many things that we have gotten that we LOVE.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Here are my top 10 must-have items for your dog!</p>
<ol>
<li><a href="https://amzn.to/3i1bXFj" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THIS</a> is essential for a puppy, but we use it every day, he loves it. It&#8217;s his own little hide-a-way.</li>
<li><a href="https://amzn.to/3yOcJvq" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">This </a>is the best dog bed cover it makes for easy clean-up, we even have one in the bed for the dog in our RV.</li>
<li>I&#8217;d much rather take the dog for a walk and use <a href="https://amzn.to/2CG6ifE" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THIS</a> than stay home cleaning all day.</li>
<li>And we all sure need <a href="https://amzn.to/2HresvI" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THESE,</a>&nbsp;don&#8217;t leave home without them!</li>
<li>We just switched and got <a href="https://amzn.to/2CskTLm" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THIS</a> and it really works not more pulling me around the block, it hooks in the front so if the dog pulls, he just turns himself around.</li>
<li>And certainly can&#8217;t go for a walk without <a href="https://amzn.to/3wFvCP3" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THIS leash, it has two handles and I love it.</a></li>
<li>We have at least 2 of <a href="https://amzn.to/3uFURjb" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THESE</a> it&#8217;s my dogs&#8217; favorite, we replace them about once a year, they last a long time, he&#8217;s a chewer and they help keep his teeth clean. <a href="https://amzn.to/2RTpAMa" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">We also use these once a day</a> they were recommended by our vet to keep his teeth tarter free or reduce tarter when were first started using them.</li>
<li>Some days I wonder where <a href="https://amzn.to/2CpDeIZ" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THESE</a> all go, then I&#8217;ll spot one and sure enough, they are all within a few feet of me and then I find 10 of them.</li>
<li>I just love <a href="https://amzn.to/2BA7Zy5" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THESE</a>, one for inside and one for outside, the bigger the better.</li>
<li>and <a href="https://amzn.to/2BA2qQc" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">THIS,</a> OMG this is the best at nighttime, no more walking into something I don&#8217;t want to and a clear view of what&#8217;s ahead.*My dog Charlie is microchipped, he was already chipped when we adopted him. I didn&#8217;t have a lot of info on registering him, chip info, and such and thought once I did it, he would always be registered, that was not the case with the company I registered him with. I paid a fee, thought that was it, I really didn&#8217;t know through that company that it was an annual fee type of thing. So the registering of the dog wasn&#8217;t really there. I was shocked.<br />
I&#8217;m happy to say I found a registry that then when checked through other chip identifiers, the info is there.<br />
It&#8217;s easy to use, you can update the info as needed. <a href="https://www.foundanimals.org/" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer">HERE is the website I used</a>.&nbsp;<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-24491" src="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/dog-treats-gluten-free-oatmeal-pumpkin-peanut-butter-baked-treatsJPG-680x1020.jpg" alt="dog treats (gluten free) oatmeal pumpkin peanut butter baked treatsJPG" width="680" height="1020" srcset="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/dog-treats-gluten-free-oatmeal-pumpkin-peanut-butter-baked-treatsJPG-680x1020.jpg 680w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/dog-treats-gluten-free-oatmeal-pumpkin-peanut-butter-baked-treatsJPG-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/dog-treats-gluten-free-oatmeal-pumpkin-peanut-butter-baked-treatsJPG.jpg 730w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" />&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Are these dog teats gluten-free?</h2>
<p>Are these dog teats gluten-free?</p>
<p>Yes, these pumpkin peanut butter oatmeal dog biscuits are gluten-free, when you roll them out, uses cornstarch instead of flour or place the dough in between two pieces of wax paper. Which is great if you don&#8217;t have a food allergy.</p>
<p>You can add flour to them if you&#8217;d like for them to be less sticky, but it&#8217;s not necessary.&nbsp;</p>
<p>If you want to avoid rolling them out and cutting them with a cookie-cutter, just place tablespoon-size balls and bake them, they are easy and quick and you&#8217;ll have a whole tray full done in no-time.</p>

<p>Can I make these with regular flour and no oatmeal?</p>
<p>I haven&#8217;t tried it, but yes, I do think you can use all-purpose flour in this recipe. I believe you may need a little more, so use 3 cups, then add some flour as needed to get a consistency you can work with that isn&#8217;t overly sticky.</li>

<p style="text-align: left;">But he&#8217;s fallen off the edge a couple of times, and we&#8217;ve scooped him out after he swam to the edge.</p>

<p>These are not typical store-bought dog biscuits:&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>there are no preservatives, store them in the fridge or freezer (they have fruit in them, the pumpkin, they will go bad after 2 days at room temperature)</li>
<li>the batter is sticky as mentioned, add flour to roll them out as needed</li>
<li>if you want them firm, bake them a little longer until the edges are lightly brown</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And yes, I made a LOT of them.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We didn’t actually have a dog at the time I made these. My daughter loved dogs so much that she spent her time walking and caring for dogs in our neighborhood. She decided that all of her canine friends needed homemade treats, so naturally, I baked them some.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She loved giving these homemade peanut butter dog treats to all the dogs she cared for, and they seemed pretty happy to be the taste testers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">From Boxers and Shih Tzus to Jack Russells and Labradors, there were plenty of happy dogs waiting for a treat.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="680" height="453" src="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Bone-Appetit-2-680x453.jpg" alt="Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Bones" class="wp-image-50478" srcset="https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Bone-Appetit-2-680x453.jpg 680w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Bone-Appetit-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Bone-Appetit-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.createdby-diane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Bone-Appetit-2.jpg 1023w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"> Why make homemade dog treats?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Making homemade dog treats is a fun way to spoil your favorite dog, and you can make a whole batch at once.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These peanut butter dog bones are especially cute when cut with a small bone shaped cookie cutter. I made about 30 three inch treats from this recipe.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can leave them plain or add a simple dog friendly icing for a little extra decoration.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ingredients</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">• Flour<br>• Cornmeal<br>• Eggs<br>• Milk<br>• Baking powder<br>• Peanut butter</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I used crunchy peanut butter when I made these, but creamy peanut butter will make the dough easier to roll out.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Important:</strong> If you&#8217;re making these for dogs, always check your peanut butter label and make sure it does not contain xylitol or other ingredients that are unsafe for dogs.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to make homemade peanut butter dog bones</h2>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Preheat the oven to 375°F.</li>

<li>Combine the flour, cornmeal, eggs, milk, baking powder, and peanut butter to form a dough.</li>

<li>Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface.</li>

<li>Use a bone shaped cookie cutter to cut out the treats.</li>

<li>Place the dog bones on a baking sheet.</li>

<li>Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the treats are baked through and firm.</li>

<li>Let the treats cool completely before decorating or giving them to your dog.</li>
</ol>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Easy icing for dog treats</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you want to decorate the dog bones, you can make a simple icing with powdered sugar and water.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Mix:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">• 1 cup powdered sugar<br>• 2 teaspoons water</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Add the water gradually until you reach a consistency that&#8217;s easy to pipe onto the cooled treats.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The icing isn&#8217;t necessary, but it&#8217;s fun if you&#8217;re making these as homemade gifts for your dog&#8217;s friends.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My daughter used the icing to personalize some of the treats with the dogs&#8217; names.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to store homemade dog treats</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These homemade treats don&#8217;t contain preservatives, so I recommend freezing them if you&#8217;re not going to use the entire batch within a few days.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can keep a small amount in the refrigerator for a few days and freeze the rest for longer storage.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I love the idea of keeping them in the freezer and giving one to your dog when they&#8217;re ready for a special treat.</p>
