How to make a no-bake cake for you cat or dog

No bake cake for Cats and Dogs @createdbydiane

It’s always fun celebrating birthdays!

The cake is the best part if you ask me.

Well, I think it shouldn’t be any different for cats and dogs.

They deserve a cake on their special day too, don’t you think?

Maybe they could even wear silly party hats too.

Oh… come on, you know you’ve tried dressing your cat or dog up in a costume, hat or sunglasses before. Maybe you put them in a pumpkin. It’s estimated that Americans spend $370 million on Halloween Pet Costumes this year. So if you think my idea of a cake for your pet is crazy there are people WAY more crazy than me out there.

Here is a quick and easy no-bake birthday cake you can give to your pets.

This cupcake pop is perfect for a smaller dog or cat. Just put a candle in the top and start singing. That is unless your pet is shy, then maybe hum the birthday song. Every day is special with our pets, they bring such joy to our lives. No better way to show them how happy we are with them on their special day than with a cake especially for them.

Jack and Charlie

I pray we will have many, many birthdays to celebrate with our pets and now a fun cake for them to indulge in.

Sometimes I think I even catch them dancing….

Well, maybe they aren’t dancing…..either way, we sure have fun with them both.

They are both indoor pets but like to play on the back porch sometimes.

Dog Neckerchief

Today we are celebrating Charlie becoming a member of our family as well as his second birthday! We are so lucky to have him.

I sewed him a neckerchief with cupcakes on it just for his birthday.

If you want to see more updates about Charlie and  Jack, follow me on instagram 🙂

Be sure to also check out this post it has my top 10 must-have items for your dog.

Please be sure the ingredients in the items you are using are safe for your animal. Xylitol is often added to peanut butter and can be toxic, so natural peanut butter is a better option. Cream cheese would be another item you could replace the peanut butter with if you choose to.

How to make a no-bake cake for your cat or dog

Print
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups Iams Cat or Dog ProActive Health Senior Plus food (any dry cat/dog food will work)
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • Icing:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons sprinkles
Instructions
  1. put cat food into a food processor along with peanut butter and pumpkin puree.
  2. Pulse until it resembles coarse crumbs and sticks together.
  3. Press into a 4-inch springform mini cake pan or roll into a cake pop.
  4. Remove from the cake pan.
  5. Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of water to make icing to pour over top of the cake. Spread it with a spatula and decorate with sprinkles.
Notes
I used a cupcake cake pop mold that I found on Amazon (here) Get creative and press it into a cookie cutter or just roll it into a ball and dip the top in icing if you like.

Happy Birthday beautiful Charlie. I’m sure Jack had a blast at your party. Your Mom is very special to have made you your own birthday cake. It looks great and I hope you enjoyed it. All the best Charlie for a healthy & happy, fun-loving year!

I made this no bake “cake” for my bulldog’s birthday. It was very sloppy and difficult to form into a cake shape – do you think I over processed it in the food processor? I carefully measured the ingredients, and I refrigerated overnight. Have you come across this problem?

the mixture is crumbly, but pressing it into a springform pan like you would a graham cracker crust which is also about the same consistency and making sure to press it firm, and then refrigerate should result in it easy to come out of the pan, I haven’t had any trouble with the mixture. Did you put it into a springform pan? Even if you processed it more, it would be finer, the peanut butter and pumpkin puree will hold it together once it’s chilled 6 hours. You can try adding in another tablespoon of peanut butter if that makes it easier for you to work with.

are powdered sugar and sprinkles safe for my cat? it’s his birthday in a few weeks and this sounds like a cool recipe for him (and for him to share with his brother)

In all I’ve read and talked with others about small amounts are ok, I wouldn’t feed it to them everyday, but once in a while should be fine.
I do not offer health advice for people or pets, just my opinion, I always suggest doing what you feel is right.

I have a question? Is there any special reason why you used Iams Cat or Dog Proactive Health Senior Plus food? Will any brand or style of dry food work? Also, I do not want to use sugar and sprinkles for icing. What do you think of using plain Greek yogurt as the icing- maybe mixed with something else. I have not decide what to use as of yet. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thank you in advance.

You can use any type of dry cat/dog food for this recipe. Yes you can use Greek yogurt or even peanut butter to top the cake off with I’m sure your pet will love it.

Is it necessary to have it chill for a few hours or can it be given right away? Also would a blender be okay to mix everything? If not is there any other way to do so?

Chilling it allows it to set up as it’s not baked and will crumble until the mixture is cold. (like a no-bake graham cracker crust, once it’s set up it doesn’t fall apart) there is not enough liquid for a blender to operate properly and it would probably not work well. If you don’t have a food processor, a manual food chopper will work, or chop the pet food very fine with a knife then stir in the remaining ingredients until it’s all combined.

I haven’t made this cake with anything else, so I can’t offer a substitution at this time.

You really should not give your pet powdered sugar, nor sprinkles:) They wont die, but its not good for them, could lead to rotting teeth and diabetes etc. But beside from that its a really cute cake!

Well, one time a year on their birthday will not rot their teeth or cause a problem. It’s clearly, not something to serve to them every day nor did I recommend doing so. Birthdays are once a year 🙂

Isn’t peanut butter toxic for cats? If this recipe is made for dogs I can understand, but please don’t add any ingredients that can be harmful to your feline babies. You can even Google it and it will tell you that’s bad for them.

Peanut butter itself is not toxic to cats, but if it has xylitol added that is what can be toxic. Alternatives could be to use cream cheese or another item you and your cat would prefer.
