Gingerbread Madeleines

Gingreabread Madeleines @createdbydiane

GINGERBREAD time of year is coming fast and furious,

at least in my house it is.

I don’t actually prefer my gingerbread overly spicy or heavy tasting. I like to call it gingerbread spice.

I had a whole conversation about this the other night. I love gingerbread items, but have had some that are almost burning. That I don’t like!

If they have too much ginger in them, they can be too strong.

I made some gingerbread items for my friends to come on over and try and it turns out they like gingerbread just like I do, not to spicy.

All the recipes I made were a hit! (Yippee!)

There is one thing about gingerbread that I find funny.

It’s the molasses.

Gingerbread Madeleines @createdbydiane.jpg

Molasses doesn’t pour as slow as I had imagined, especially with the age old saying “slow as molasses”.

It is REALLY sticky though.

I can never seem to keep the jar clean enough, actually I’m a complete mess with it. I’ve made a few gingerbread recipes lately and I decided the jar needs a pour top spout.

clean floors with Bissell Steam mop @createdbydiane

I am often making a mess in the kitchen and Swiffer must have gotten word of this and asked me to try their new Swiffer Bissell Steamboost.* It arrived just in time to clean up some sticky messes. Molasses and icing seem to make their way onto my floors more often than I’d like and since I live in Southern California and walk around barefoot all the time, I like my floors CLEAN! The Bissell steam mop was easy to use and the heat really helps loosen up the sticky messes and made cleaning them up quick. It’s very light and easy to use. Be sure to enter the giveaway to WIN a Swiffer Bissell Steamboost, instructions at the bottom of this post.

The top left photo is of the eggs, sugar and salt beaten for 5 minutes. It’s smooth and creamy. Be sure to mix this part as directed.

Fill the Madeleine pan in two or three tablespoons in each portion depending on what size Madeleines you’d like.

This recipe can easily be doubled. This makes 12 large Madeleines or 18 medium sized Madeleines.

Gingerbread Madeleines

Ingredients
  • 2 eggs
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup flour
  • ¼ cup melted and cooled butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • ⅛ teaspoon dry ginger
  • ½ tablespoon butter and 3-4 tablespoons flour to prepare pan
Instructions
  1. preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Butter and flour Madeleine pan.
  3. Beat eggs, sugar and salt together for 5 minutes until it's smooth and creamy.
  4. Mix in vanilla, molasses, pumpkin pie spice and ginger.
  5. Fold in flour and butter alternating in three additions each.
  6. Place 2 tablespoon into each section of the Madeleine pan for smaller Madeleines, or three tablespoons for larger Madeleines.
  7. Bake for 7-8 minutes, until they spring back to the touch.

I drizzled the Madeleines with a glaze of 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon corn syrup and 2 teaspoons water and a drop of white food coloring. Mix until smooth and drizzle onto cooled Madeleines.

I bet these would be awesome glazed with white chocolate too.

I’m COMPLETELY in agreement that molasses needs to come in a pour spout jar! I always seem to make a mess with flour on my floor. I think I might have a magnetic force pulling it down there!

I look forward to your blog ever since I found the first one about icing those red cookies. I loved it.
Now – gingerbread cake with thick lemon icing is the best. Keep sneaking back to the kitchen for more.
Worse sticky thing on floor? Hubby slicing up watermelon for me. He’s great but watermelon drippings on floor are a real mess. BTW ever drop a bowl of hot jello on the floor?? red jello??????

These sound great not too spicy for me either. I could use the Swiffer too, spills happen no matter how careful I am.

  6. 6

I dropped and egg on my hardwood floor and it was a mess to get up. I could use this!!

These sound delicious and I agree, I don’t like my gingerbread super spicy, either. Pinned! (Btw, they sell molasses with a spout here and it’s just as messy. I don’t think molasses knows any other way :)

  11. 11

I love gingerbread warm from the oven and served with a very large dollop of whipped cream!!!
Also my floors could really benefit from the Swiffer.

  12. 12

This recipe is genius and reminded me I still need to try out the Madeleine pan i bought months ago. It sounds like a perfect Christmas cookie. I too am known to have my share of accidents in the kitchen. I could really use that new Swiffer… Especially since I have a little grandson who is crawling now! Thanks for the recipe – can’t wait to try it!

  13. 13

Thank you for this recipe! I love plain ol gingerbread anything. My mom really loves it last Christmas I made ger gingerbread biscotti and she loved it. She will love these too. I received some pans after my cousin passed that was a chef. I’m so thrilled to be able to use them. I’ve always got a mess on my floor bake a lot of bread.

Such a sweet idea to make Gingerbread Madeleines, Diane! In fact, I just created a new gingerbread board over at Pinterest. (Already had one for gingerbread houses, but felt I needed a separate one, LOL.) Anyway, stopped by to see what you are up to baking for the upcoming holidays. I remember the first time I stopped by your blog you decorated some really cute snowman snowflake cookies for Christmas. I loved the carrot noses! Have a great weekend, girl. Pinning!

  30. 31

    so cute! Love your cookies!

  31. 32

Can’t wait to make these! ! Just found your blog and am loving it. Messes happen on a pretty regular basis but worse to date, was the corn syrup debacle as we so fondly refer to it at my house. That’s one mess you can’t recruit the dog to help with! :)

Our family has bananas every single day for breakfast. When banana gets on the floor it hardens and sticks and is very difficult to get off. This Bissell machine sounds great for removing all kinds of hardened bits not just banana, and probably things stuck elsewhere, not just on the floor! I’d sure like to try it (crossing fingers)!

    The madeleines recipe looks great!
