Dirt Cupcakes

Dirt Cupcakes

I made these for my sons birthday and he LOVED them, so did his friends.
dirt cupcakes with candy worms
I made dirt cups with pudding a few years ago,he has spoken about them ever since,
I thought I’d surprise him with dirt cupcakes…
He was SURPRISED and couldn’t wait to have one.
Neither could anyone else, when they saw them.

Which is always funny considering they want to eat dirt and worms.

I baked chocolate cupcakes and frosted them with chocolate frosting
Chocolate Frosting Recipe
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
5 cups powdered sugar
3 T. milk
Beat butter and shortening then add cocoa, powdered sugar and turn on mixer while adding milk, mix until well blended.
I rolled them in cookie crumbs:
I couldn’t find oreo crumbs as I have before, so I purchased an oreo pie crust and mixed it with chocolate gold fish I put in the food processor and ground. I mixed both together. It made a great dirt effect. Dark and light brown.
I then placed gummy worms I had cut in half into the frosting.
Another alternative to chocolate cookie crumbs could be crumbled up cupcake/cake.
Best dirt on earth!

These cupcakes would be great for Halloween too,
do you know the Hearse Song {click if you’ve forgotten it}
every year just about Halloween time I think of that song and these cupcakes go right along with it.

I've made something similar for Halloween parties, but not as cupcakes. These are much cuter! And easier to eat, I suspect.
