Use one or a couple of options to cook it the way you prefer. I cook this dish often and change it up depending on how much I'm cooking and the time of year cookign outside on the grill or I use a cast iron on the stove in the winter months.
I cook the items in a pan on the stove or on a sheet pan in the oven with some olive oil as needed for even browning, so the itmes don't stick and I add some salt and pepper,
Cook the sausage (on the grill, in a pan on the stove or in a sheet pan in the oven at 375° until fully cooked at 165° internal temperature)
cook the cabbage (in a skillet, or on a sheet pan in the oven at 375° until just wilted and cooked enough to not be hard and that a knife would pierce it easily- do not overcook and allow the cabbage to be mushy and soft)
cook potatoes (in a skillet with some oil, or on a sheet pan at 375° until tender)
cook the onions in a pan on the stove or a sheet pan in the oven at 375° until tender and golden)
Mix all the cooked items together into a large bowl and serve with a side of mustard and sour kraut.
