In reply to <a href="https://www.createdby-diane.com/easy-chocolate-peanut-butter-whoopie-pies/comment-page-1/#comment-290079">Dianne Evans</a>.

I didn't flatten mine, maybe that is why they puffed up. I just mixed the batter until it all came together (I did not beat it for 2 minutes like with cake) Mine were puffy right out of the oven, but flattened when cooled. Maybe your cookies were baked longer and then they were dryer and didn't "fall" like mine did. Puffy cookies are good too :) I would place the dough in balls as I did an have them bake and see how that works. You can bake 4 cookies and "test" how you oven bakes them. Before baking the whole batch. I'm thinking it was that you flattened them and maybe baked them a minute or so longer. If you want chewy cookies they need to be slightly under baked. One minute will matter. Hope that helps

Diane: I just made these and they're "puffy", even tho I mashed them down with a spatula. And they don't look as big or as flat as yours. How long do you beat the ingredients ( I left out the water, as stated). They looked like they needed more moisture or maybe I didn't beat them long enough. I beat the batter just till smooth, not as long as you usually, beat cake mix (about 2 minutes)
I want to make these for my 4 year old great grandson who loves chocolate...Please help!
Thank you....Dianne (with 2 n's, ha)

Sorry to hear it didn't come out right, I used skippy peanut butter if that helps. If it's too thick, I would add more milk and whip it till it's fluffy. Hope that helps.

My peanut butter filling didn't turn out. It was tasty but it turned out darker and too thick to even spread. I was expecting a more light, whipped peanut butter filling but I couldn't even use piping because it was too thick. I know I used all the right ingredients.
