Cookies and cream and frosting all whipped up together gives cupcakes or cake a PERFECT topping!

The deep dark delicious chocolate flavor is always recognizable… it’s delicious and is the key to making all cookies and cream items taste fantastic.

This frosting should be applied immediately to baked goods, to avoid everyone eating it out of the BOWL!!!

This is one of those irresistible flavor combos that seem to be everyone’s favorite and with good reason.

This frosting is great on top of cupcakes, to make cookie sandwiches.

What is Oreo icing made of?

Oreo Cookies, Butter, Sugar, and Cream.

Can you fill cupcakes with oreo frosting?

As mentioned above, you can pipe it in the center, or you can cut each cupcake in half and spread a layer of frosting over the middle of each cupcake, then place the tops of the cupcakes over the frosting and pipe frosting on top of cupcakes, the frosting in the center will look like a layer cake. Guaranteed Oreo Frosting in every bite!

The biggest debate is how do YOU eat an Oreo,

do you bite right in,

pull the cookies apart then lick the filling or eat one-half than the other.

It’s fun to see how passionate people are about HOW they eat an Oreo,

me… I like them so many ways, and I end up putting them in many recipes because the flavor is so irresistible.

At the bottom of this post, I share with you some of my favorites!

Oreo Frosting

A great flavor of oreos blended in buttercream frosting, a delicious cookies and cream frosting perfect for cakes, cookies and to top cupcakes with.
Prep Time5 minutes
Total Time5 minutes
Course: Frosting
Cuisine: Dessert
Servings: 12 + servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 15 Oreos more for topping cupcakes

Instructions

  • In a food processor place Oreos and pulse until they are chopped fine, you can crush them in a plastic bag with a rolling pin, but if you are going to pipe the frosting onto the cookies ,chunks of the cookie won't work out well, so pulse them small.
  • In mixer beat butter until smooth, add in powdered sugar and heavy cream and begin on medium-low and mix until combined, then turn on high and whip until fluffy.
  • Add in oreo crumbs.
  • The filling of the Oreos makes this frosting extra creamy alternatively, you can purchase oreo crumbs in some stores and use those, but the filling adds to the flavor of these.
  • Pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes with a large star-shaped tip and top them off with an Oreo.

Click for my favorite chocolate cupcake recipe here. I used dutch cocoa in these and the rich chocolate flavor is great. If you want the cupcakes to have the really dark “Oreo” flavor look for “Black Onyx Cocoa, it’s wonderful. I’ve made cupcakes with it and everyone loved them.

    1. It’ll cover 12 cupcake if you pipe it on like the photo and 24 cupcakes if you spread it on with a spatula and don’t pile it high. Double the recipe for 24 cupcakes if you plan on piping them

    2. One batch of this frosting recipe will cover about a 9×13, multiply the recipe if your sheet cake is larger, or you want thicker frosting.

  1. Can i use regular sugar everytime i use powdered sugar it tastes to strong even if i use less than wut tha recipe calls foe

    1. This frosting recipe won’t work with regular granulated sugar, it won’t dissolve and will end up just being gritty. Take a look at this recipe for my Italian Buttercream Frosting, it’s silky smooth and made with granulated sugar, it takes a few more steps, but WOW is it worth it, it’s delicious, just add the chopped oreos to this recipes.

    2. I typically use salted butter, as I don’t like my frosting overly sweet. Use the butter you prefer the taste of in desserts.

    3. Please is it possible to use margarine in place of the butter? Or it strictly has to be butter.

    4. for buttercream frosting to have a great flavor, I use butter. I have used 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening. I have not made frosting with margarine, but think it should work fine. You could try it with all margarine or 1/2 margarine and 1/2 shortening if margarine is too soft in texture. I myself prefer that taste of butter in frosting 😉 hope it works out for you.

    1. yes, you can leave these on the counter for 2 days, then I would refrigerate if there are any left.

    1. If you find it’s too thick, just add a tablespoon at a time of heavy cream (or milk) and that will thin it out. Why did it happen, could be a couple of reasons, you heavy cream could have been really thick, you could have packed in your powdered sugar a bit and each of those will thicken it up, but thinning frosting only takes a second 😉

  2. Amazing! Oreos are my kids most favourite. I’m going to use your recipe for my daughter’s birthday party. They will definitely love for sure. Thanks for sharing this excellent recipe and please keep sharing.

    1. I googled it, it says 1/2 cup is 115 grams. But double check to be sure you think it’s accurate. In the US 1 stick of butter is 1/2 cup which is also 1/4 pound.

  3. Happy! About half of my family is vegan, and I had a last-minute request for something vegan for a birthday party. These cupcakes were a hit with everyone. Thank you!I would definitely stick to three cups of confectioners sugar and no more, because the frosting was stiff, although there weren’t any complaints.I also used only two bowls and mixed the dry into the wet. But otherwise I followed it exactly. Quick, easy, and yummy!

  4. This recipe was way too sweet and way too buttery for me. The icing has a really buttery after taste. It honestly ruined the cake for me 🙁 just needs some critiquing for my own palette.

    1. Well let’s start off with this recipe is for a “buttercream frosting” the ingredients in true buttercream is butter and cream whipped with sugar. If you don’t like the taste of butter, use shortening. If you don’t like frosting to taste sweet, use some salt, salted butter if using any butter and adjust the sugar to your liking. If you are used to store bought baked items, you most likely are use to the taste of shortening vs butter. Hope that helps, it’s always going to depend on what you usually eat as to your liking of a new recipe
